What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students gather information from maps, photographs, charts, interviews, and short articles about Florida's role in space exploration. They report effects on jobs, businesses, tourism, community identity, traditions, and education, using evidence.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly label aerospace jobs and launch tourism as economic effects, and launch festivals or museum programs as cultural effects. They connect each claim to a source and explain how one event can affect both areas.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat every effect as economic because money is involved, or limit culture to art and music. They may assume all effects are positive, occur across all of Florida, or benefit only astronauts and NASA workers. Some list facts about rockets without explaining an effect on people or communities.
How to Assess It
- Give students a simple chart of hotel bookings during launch weeks and a photo of a Florida launch festival. Ask them to write one economic effect, one cultural effect, and one supporting detail for each.
