What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students read angle diagrams and decide which angle fact applies. They use 90°, 180°, or equal measures to write equations and find unknown angles.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly name the relationship shown in a diagram and choose the matching fact about the angle measures. They write and solve an equation, then check that the measures fit the diagram.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may swap 90° and 180°, or assume adjacent angles always have a fixed sum. They may also think vertical angles are next to each other instead of opposite each other.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Two adjacent angles form a straight line and measure (3x + 15)° and (2x + 25)°. Find x and both angle measures.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs of craft sticks and protractors; students build complementary, supplementary, vertical, and adjacent angles, then measure and label each relationship.
Show four labeled angle diagrams; students write which relationship finds x and the equation that proves it.
Run a card match where students pair angle diagrams with relationship names, equations, and missing-angle values, then check with an answer key.
Use a street-intersection map and a roof-corner sketch; students mark angle pairs and calculate missing measures from given angles.
