- Students describe volume as how much three-dimensional space a container can hold. They identify everyday situations where measuring that space helps solve a problem.

- Students explain volume as the amount of space inside a three-dimensional container. They name sensible uses, such as choosing a box, filling a tank, or planning storage.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse volume with area or perimeter. They may describe only the container’s height or use square units instead of cubic units.
How to Assess It
- Give students a picture of a shipping box and ask: “What does its volume tell you, and when would that measurement be useful?”
