What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students read digital times ending in :00 or :30 and find the analog clock showing the same time. They check both clock hands before choosing a match.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly match several hour and half-hour times without help. They use the minute hand’s position and the hour hand’s location to explain each choice.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse the hour hand with the minute hand. At half-hour times, they may place the hour hand directly on a number instead of halfway toward the next hour.
How to Assess It
- Give students digital times 3:00 and 7:30, with three analog choices for each, and ask them to circle and explain each match.

Ways to Teach It
Build matching pairs with mini analog clocks and digital time cards, then have partners explain how the hands prove each match.
Ask, “How can you tell whether 5:30 matches this clock?” and have students name the minute-hand and hour-hand clues.
Play Memory with face-down analog clock cards and digital time cards showing only hours and half-hours.
Use a classroom schedule, such as lunch at 11:30, and have students set that time on teaching clocks.
