What Students Need to Do: Students explain the causes, main actions, and consequences of major Revolutionary events and battles. They place events in order and show how one event led to another.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students accurately sequence events such as the Boston Tea Party, Lexington and Concord, Saratoga, and Yorktown. They explain why Saratoga was a turning point and how Yorktown led toward independence.
Common Misconceptions: Students may treat protests, laws, and battles as the same type of event. They often confuse Saratoga with Yorktown or mistake an immediate result for a long-term consequence.
How to Assess It: Give students four event cards: Boston Tea Party, Lexington and Concord, Saratoga, and Yorktown. Have them sequence the cards and add one cause and consequence for each.

Lesson moves

Groups arrange event cards on a floor timeline, then use labeled yarn to connect each event with its cause and consequence.
Students answer: Which event changed the war most, and what two facts support your choice?
Pairs play a matching game with cards showing events, causes, immediate results, and long-term consequences.
Students read a local protest news article and identify its cause, main actions, and possible short-term and long-term consequences.
