What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students group related findings and put them in a clear, logical order. They share the information through speaking or writing. They match the tone and structure to the audience and setting.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students present a clear main idea, grouped details, useful transitions, and a conclusion. They adjust their words, tone, and structure for the audience and format.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may list facts in the order they found them instead of grouping related ideas. They may treat informal sharing as careless or read slides without explaining the findings.
How to Assess It
- Give students six notes about school start times. Ask them to organize the notes and write a five-sentence summary for the principal.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups mixed research note cards to sort into topic groups, then arrange them as an introduction, supporting details, and conclusion.
Prompt students to explain one finding to a principal and a friend, then discuss how their word choices and tone change.
Students draw an audience card and a format card, then prepare a 45-second presentation using three provided research notes.
Survey classmates about cafeteria choices, then turn the results into a short principal memo and a casual morning announcement.
