What Students Need to Do
- Students explain why major 20th century events mattered, not just when they happened. They connect each event to changes in jobs, cities, rights, government, or daily life.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can name a cause and an effect of a major event and explain its lasting significance. They support the explanation with accurate people, laws, actions, or examples.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat industrialization and urbanization as single events rather than long-term changes. They may confuse the two world wars or assume the Great Depression affected only banks. They may describe civil rights protests without explaining how laws and opportunities changed.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Choose the Great Depression, a world war, or the civil rights movement. Write one cause, one effect, and two sentences explaining why it mattered.
