What Students Need to Do
- Students identify ways people can reduce resource use, get the same result with less waste, and use tools to limit pollution. They connect each action to a specific benefit for air, water, soil, or energy supplies.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can classify a proposed solution as conservation, increased efficiency, technology, or a combination. They can explain which resource it protects and how it reduces use, waste, or pollution.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often treat conservation and efficiency as the same idea. They may assume every new technology protects resources, even when it uses more energy or creates waste.
How to Assess It
- Give students this prompt: A school wastes water watering sidewalks. Propose one conservation action, one efficiency improvement, and one technology solution, then explain each choice.
