Students identify a scientific discovery or a designed solution. They explain how it changed scientific work and people's lives using clear cause-and-effect links.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students can name a specific discovery or solution and describe at least two results. They connect one result to science and another to society.

Common Misconceptions

Students may confuse a scientific discovery with an invention or assume every new idea has only positive effects. They may describe what something does without explaining how it caused change.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: Scientists discovered that some diseases are caused by germs. Explain one way this changed scientific work and one way it changed daily life.

  1. Build a simple water filter with gravel, sand, and a coffee filter, then explain how cleaner-water designs affect communities.
