What Students Need to Do

Students show a mathematical idea in more than one form, such as words, symbols, diagrams, tables, or graphs. They explain how the forms match and what their result means.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student presents the same idea accurately with words and at least two other forms, such as an equation, diagram, table, or graph. The student explains how the forms connect and what the result means.

Common Misconceptions

Students may create a graph or diagram that does not match their equation. They may leave labels off, or give an answer without explaining what it means in the situation.

How to Assess It

Give an exit ticket with this prompt: “A gym charges $8 per visit. Show the cost for any number of visits with words, a table, and an equation.”
