What Students Need to Do: Students prepare a polished piece that others can easily read. They choose a way to present it, such as a class book, display, or oral reading.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student creates a readable final copy with a title and appropriate spacing or digital formatting. The student presents it clearly and responds to the audience.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think a first draft is ready for an audience. They may focus only on neat handwriting or pictures and skip final revisions, editing, or respectful sharing.
How to Assess It: Give students a revised paragraph and ask them to prepare it for display, then read it to a partner and answer one audience question.

Lesson moves

Have students turn a revised draft into a class book page using lined paper, colored pencils, a title, and an illustration.
Ask students to write who should read their piece and explain one choice they made for that audience.
Play Author’s Chair, where students read finished pieces aloud and listeners give one specific compliment and ask one question.
Create menus, signs, or short reviews for a pretend classroom restaurant, then display them for classmates to read.
