What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students name common weather conditions in each season. They explain and draw how weather changes clothing, travel, work, play, and community routines. They notice how nearby land and water shape daily choices.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can match weather pictures to likely seasons and explain each match. The student can show one way people prepare for or respond to the weather.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think every place has snow in winter or hot weather in summer. They may confuse one day's weather with a season or name clothing without explaining why it fits.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Draw one kind of weather common in the current season. Add a person and show one choice that fits the weather.

Ways to Teach It
Set up a window weather station with a thermometer, windsock, and picture chart, then record conditions each morning for one week.
Show two seasonal community photos and ask, "What changed, and what are people doing differently because of the weather?"
Play a sorting game by matching weather cards, clothing cards, and activity cards to four season mats.
Read a local weather forecast, then have students choose safe clothing and transportation plans for a walk to the library.
