What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do: Students identify a problem, listen to what each person needs, and suggest fair solutions. They help choose a solution and use calm words to carry it out.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can explain a simple conflict, name two possible solutions, and choose one that respects everyone involved. The student can take turns speaking and listening.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think fair means getting their own way or giving everyone exactly the same thing. They may expect an adult to solve every conflict or think an apology fixes the problem by itself.
How to Assess It: Give this exit ticket: Two children both want the same ball. Draw or write one fair solution and one sentence they could say.

Ways to Teach It

Give pairs six blocks and one toy figure, then have them agree on a shared plan for building a neighborhood.
Discuss this prompt: Two classmates want the same swing, so what could they say and do to make a fair plan?
Students sort scenario cards into talk, take turns, vote, or ask for help, then explain each choice.
Walk the playground, identify one shared-space problem, and draw a sign or routine that could help solve it.
