What Students Need to Do: Students identify and extend arithmetic patterns, including patterns in addition and multiplication tables. They describe the rule and use structure to predict later entries.
What Mastery Looks Like: The student extends a numerical or table pattern accurately and names a consistent rule. The student explains features such as even products in a selected row or column.
Common Misconceptions: Students may continue a pattern from the last difference without checking earlier terms. They may describe visible entries but not identify the arithmetic rule.
How to Assess It: Show 4, 8, 12, 16 and the fours row of a multiplication table. Ask students to extend both and explain the shared arithmetic pattern.
