- Students write whole numbers as fractions and identify fractions equal to whole numbers. They use equal-sized parts to explain why the numerator contains complete wholes.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student writes 3 as 3/1, 6/2, or 12/4 and explains each representation. The student recognizes 8/4 as 2 using a model or number line.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think every fraction is less than one. They may treat the denominator as the number of wholes rather than the number of equal parts per whole.
