What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use geometric shapes, measurements, and properties to describe real objects. They choose useful two-dimensional or three-dimensional approximations and state what the model leaves out.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student models an object with appropriate shapes and dimensions and explains why those choices fit. Calculations and units match the model's geometry.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may choose a familiar shape that ignores an important feature or mix linear, area, and volume units. They may present the model as exact without naming assumptions.
How to Assess It
- Show a real object with dimensions. Ask students to sketch a geometric model, label measures, and state one assumption and one useful calculation.
