What Students Need to Do

Students fit quadratic, exponential, or power functions to real-world data and use the model to answer contextual questions. They use calculator regression and check whether predictions are sensible.

What Mastery Looks Like

The student selects a suitable model, reports its equation, and interprets a prediction with units. Residual or graphical evidence supports the model choice.

Common Misconceptions

Students may choose the regression with the largest displayed statistic without inspecting the pattern. They may extrapolate far beyond the data or ignore contextual limits.

How to Assess It

Provide a small nonlinear data set. Ask students to fit two candidate models, choose one with evidence, and make one contextual prediction.
