What Students Need to Do
- Students conclude informative writing by explaining the significance of the information. The ending follows from the text’s analysis and evidence.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The conclusion synthesizes central insights and states a warranted implication or importance. It avoids unsupported claims and new content.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may summarize mechanically or add an opinion. They may exaggerate consequences beyond the evidence.
How to Assess It
- Give a developed explanation without an ending. Ask students to write a synthesized, proportionate conclusion about significance.
