What Students Need to Do: Students use precise language and content-specific vocabulary in arguments. They communicate complex relationships without exaggeration or vagueness.
What Mastery Looks Like: The student chooses exact terms, verbs, and qualifiers suited to the topic. Technical vocabulary is accurate, defined when needed, and integrated naturally.
Common Misconceptions: Students may use jargon to sound authoritative. They may choose absolute words that overstate evidence or repeat broad words such as good and bad.
How to Assess It: Give a vague argument paragraph and a topic vocabulary list. Ask students to revise for precision, accurate qualification, and natural integration.
