What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students provide a concluding statement or section for an argument. The ending follows from the claim and reasons.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student restates the position in fresh words and gives a clear sense of completion. The conclusion does not introduce an unrelated reason.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may stop after the last fact. They may copy the opening exactly or add new evidence.
How to Assess It
- Give an argument without an ending. Ask students to write a conclusion connected to the claim and reasons.
