What Students Need to Do
- Students use linking words and phrases to connect ideas within categories of information. The links show addition, reason, example, or result.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student groups related ideas and uses fitting links such as because, also, and for example. Connections are clear and not repetitive.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may use then for every relationship. They may insert linking words that do not match the ideas.
How to Assess It
- Give a paragraph with missing links. Ask students to add words or phrases and explain each connection.
