What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how other researchers can follow the same procedure and check the findings. They connect repeated results with finding errors, limiting chance effects, and building confidence in evidence.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can examine an investigation and decide whether another group has enough detail to repeat it. They explain that similar results support a finding, even when measurements are not exactly identical.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think repeated results must be exactly the same. They may confuse one group repeating trials with a separate group checking the investigation. They may also assume one successful test proves a claim.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: A class gets one result, but another class cannot repeat the test because key steps are missing. Explain why the first result is not yet dependable.

Ways to Teach It
Build identical paper helicopters, time three drops, swap written procedures with another group, and compare whether their results fall within a similar range.
Write a response to: Why should a new medicine be tested by more than one research team?
Play Replication Detective: teams examine procedure cards and earn points by finding missing details that would prevent another team from repeating the test.
Compare two short water quality reports from different labs and decide whether matching results make the safety claim more believable.
