What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students organize and deliver individual and group presentations for different settings. They support main ideas with relevant facts, details, examples, and named sources. They speak clearly and respond to questions with evidence and useful explanations.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students give a focused presentation with a clear sequence and supporting details. They adjust vocabulary, pace, tone, and volume for the audience and purpose. They answer questions directly and refer to sources when using outside information.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may list facts without linking them to a clear main idea. They may read slides word for word, speak too quickly, or use an unsuitable tone. Some answer audience questions with opinions rather than evidence or forget to name their sources aloud.
How to Assess It
- Give students two minutes to present a claim using one fact, one example, and one named source. Ask one follow-up question and check whether the response uses relevant evidence.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups mixed presentation cards labeled claim, fact, example, source, and conclusion, then have them arrange and deliver a one-minute talk.
Ask students to explain how their word choice and speaking style would change when addressing classmates, parents, or the school board.
Run a question-response relay where students answer audience questions using a fact, observation, or example from a shared text.
Have students pitch a practical school improvement to the principal, using survey results, one example, and an aloud source reference.
