What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students choose verb forms that show whether an action happened before, happens now, or will happen later. They make verbs fit one person, several people, and pronouns such as I, he, and they.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can write “She walks,” “They walk,” and “Yesterday, she walked” without help. The student can also find and fix a mismatched verb in a short sentence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may write “He walk” or “They walks” because they confuse which subject takes an added s. They may switch time within a sentence or use forms such as “goed” instead of “went.”
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Complete “Yesterday, the dog ___ home. Today, the dogs ___ home.” using walked or walk. Then write one sentence beginning with “Tomorrow.”

Ask students to compare “The bird sings” and “The birds sing,” then explain what changed and why.
Play Verb Match Bingo with subject cards and verb choices, requiring students to read each completed sentence aloud.
Make a class news chart labeled Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, and have students add one accurate sentence to each column.
