The Standard
With guidance and support from adults, use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with others.

What This Standard Means
Students need to use a device to write, revise, and share their work. They should practice basic keyboarding, open a document, type sentences, make simple edits, save work, and use a teacher-approved tool to share or respond to classmates.
Mastery looks like a student typing a short piece, fixing errors with support, adding a title, and sharing it in the right place. Students often get stuck logging in, finding saved files, using capitals and punctuation while typing, and giving helpful comments instead of vague praise.
Ways to Teach It
- Have students type a final copy of a paragraph in Google Docs, add a title, and use spellcheck with teacher approval.
- Ask students to comment on a partner's story with one question and one specific compliment about the writing.
- Check progress by asking students to open their file, type one revised sentence, save it, and show you where it is.
- Show a classroom blog post or school newsletter, then have students discuss how writers use technology to reach real readers.
