Georgia 7.NR.1.10
The Standard
Convert rational numbers between forms to include fractions, decimal numbers and percentages, using understanding of the part divided by the whole. Know that the decimal form of a rational number terminates in 0s or eventually repeats.
Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards · Solve relevant, mathematical problems, including multi-step problems, involving the four operations with rational numbers and quantities in any form (integers, percentages, fractions, and decimal numbers).

What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students treat a fraction as the numerator divided by the denominator. They move among fraction, decimal, and percent forms while keeping the value unchanged. They recognize that rational decimals either end or repeat a pattern.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can show that 3/4 means 3 divided by 4, then write 0.75 and 75%. The student uses repeating notation correctly for values such as 2/3. The student can tell whether a decimal ends or repeats.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may multiply by 100 when converting a fraction directly, without first finding the decimal value. They may think every decimal terminates or confuse a rounded decimal with an exact value. Some divide the numerator and denominator in the wrong order.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Convert 3/8 and 5/6 to decimals and percentages, then label each decimal as terminating or repeating and explain the division used.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs fraction, decimal, and percent cards to match, including sets with terminating and repeating decimals.
Ask students to explain in writing why 3/8 equals 37.5% using part divided by whole.
Play conversion bingo with fractions called aloud and matching decimal or percent values on student boards.
Use a restaurant discount menu and ask students to rewrite each percent discount as a fraction and decimal.
