Detailed Example

Reviewing Content Before Assessment (Any Subject - 6th Grade)

Materials Needed

  • Question cards (15-20 per group)
  • Role cards or rotation chart
  • Answer key for self-checking (optional)

Preparation

Create question cards at varying difficulty levels. Form groups of 4 students. Make role rotation charts. Decide if answers are checked by teacher or answer key.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1.

Form groups of 4. Each person has a role that rotates after each question.

2.

Four roles:

Person 1: Fans the cards, holds them out for picking

Person 2: Picks a card, reads the question aloud

Person 3: Answers the question

Person 4: Evaluates and coaches - 'Correct!' or 'Try again, think about...'

3.

Demonstrate with a student group.

4.

After each question, roles rotate clockwise. Fan becomes Pick, Pick becomes Answer, etc.

5.

Play continues until time is called or cards run out.

6.

Rules: No helping during answer time (wait for coach role). Celebrate correct answers.

7.

When stuck, coach can give hints but not answers.

8.

Play for 15-20 minutes.

9.

Collect cards with questions groups found difficult. Address with whole class.

10.

Variation: Use different colored cards for different difficulty levels.

Differentiation Strategies

Assign roles strategically so struggling students have support when answering. Create tiered card sets. For advanced groups, require explanation with each answer.

Assessment Guidelines

Listen to answers for accuracy. Note which questions cause difficulty. Track whether coaches are effective. Use challenging questions for whole-class review.
